Mark's Scenic Arizona

Massacre Falls = December 30, 2010

After heavy overnight rains I sought out a fully flowing falls

I received wildly changing weather along with some great photos

clearing over the Superstition Mountains
Superstition Mountains
Superstition Mountains
Superstition Mountains
Superstition Mountains
Light snow dusting the Superstition Mountains
View over the Goldfields
Dome Mountain
Superstition Mountains
Low clouds rolling in again
'Mini-Weaver's Needle'
Mini-Needle again zoomed in
Profile changes as we skirt by
Looking east from the mini-needle area
Superstition Mountains
Clouds moving across above the snow
More snow dusting... not quite
Couds continue to vary wildly
Not enough snow to
Clearing halfway up to the falls?
Breaks in the clouds give some hope
Clouds thinning shows more snow
Weaver's Needle poking it's head up
Continuing on the climb
Clearing a little?
Not from this viewpoint
Superstition ridge line
My destination is far left in the middle
Zoomed in just left (east) of the falls
Time for a quick water shot
Massacre Falls is dead center
Massacre Falls is flowing
Massacre Falls zoomed in
Paul Revere's
Fellow HAZ hiker was up there
Approaching the falls
Another Massacre Falls close-up
Immediately west of Massacre Falls
View north from the falls area
Getting close to the falls now
A wind gust showered me pretty good
Over the top at 1/640th second
Water pool below the falls
Another angle over the top
Splashing it's way down
Massacre Falls
Immediately east of Massacre Falls
Geronimo Head on left Malapais on right
Massacre Falls
View from Massacre Falls
What? Blue skies a comin'?
Snow toward the east near Reavis
Cloes-up of snow to the east
Rain and snow a comin'
Rain coming down in sheets
Moments later all is peaceful & serene
Clearing again?
Now it's in the dark again
Ominous again!
Yet some blue sky trying hard
Brightening up again
On the return trip now
Darkness framing the light
I never noticed the
Blue skies threatening to take over
Rain dumping on sun-drenched ground
Calm amidst a wildy changing day
Wow! Blue skies abound!
Yet the clouds aren't ready to give in
Dark gray awaits around the corner
By time I reach it there's no more sun
Clouds are taking over again
Will I make it back before a drenching?
The rains are sweeping this way now
Rain in the Goldfields
Sunshine before the storm
The edge of the weather front
Clearing again over the Supes
Still the sun holds out hope
Not this direction!
Or this direction!
Or even here!
Now I'm at the edge of the rain
I'm starting to feel the drops now
Changing to snow here
Photo doesn't show the snow well
More snow now
Meadow is in the sun while I'm in snow
Sunshine on the meadow
Ominous again!
I took the shot hoping to see the snow blowing by
There, now you can see some
It looked like more than this to the eye
Four Peaks finally able to peek through
Four Peaks zoomed in
Four Peaks are fading fast with more snow
Clear green amidst the fog of rain/snowfall
Clearing above Four Peaks?
Suprstitions Mountains majesty!
Flatiron in the haze.
