Sierra Ancha Ruins = May 23, 2011

We set out to locate a couple ruin sites

And found a bit more than expected

In the ravine just before the ruins
First shot of our first ruin location for the day
Most of the walls have been 'ruined'
Part of the south 'end' room
Trio of Saguaro's on the summit
Not sure if the terracing is natural or not
One of the outermost walls
Slightly more intact wall
Rooms near the center
View back on our route to this ruin site
The little that is left still shows separate rooms
View to the east from the ruin summit
First group of pottery shards we found
More pottery shards
River rock walls in the wash below
View of Roosevelt Lake
View south over the summit
View SW
Antler-like tree skeletons
River-rock walls in the wash below
Closer look at the river-rock walls
Another wall
Down in the wash
Heavy & thorny brush cover made it a chore
Another ground-level look
Taller yet still haphazrdly built
Older section of wall
Prckly pear growing out of a rock
Another view
The bee wouldn't sit still for me
Another large prickly pear in bloom
Rocks encased in the roots
Prickly pear almost absorbing the mesquite
Arriving at our 2nd ruin site for the day
Slightly more intact walls
The feather among the rocks seemed appropriate
Wall near the center
This room is almost completely encased by brush
View back toward our 1st ruin site
Again there were plenty of rooms
One of the more intact walls
Another section of the same wall
View NW into the ravine below
View west
More rooms
Shards found at the 2nd site
Empty snake skin
More prickly pears in bloom
There's a fence-post in there
The tree is grown almost into the post
Ready to take on a rough and rocky climb
Slide the puzzle-piece and it fits right in
Ravine below the 2nd ruins
Jimson Weed
Summit of 2nd ruins
